The এর উচ্চারণ

The কখন দি হয়?

যখন কোন word শুরু হয় Vowel (a, e, i, o, u) দ্বারা তখন যদি The ব্যবহৃত হয় তবে এর উচ্চারণ "দি" হয়। যেমন: The accident, The ant ইত্যাদি।

The কখন দ্যা হয়?

যখন কোন word শুরু হয় Consonant দ্বারা তখন যদি The ব্যবহৃত হয় তবে এর উচ্চারণ "দ্যা" হয়। যেমন: The banana, The girl, The poor  ইত্যাদি।

The এর ব্যবহার

01. Singular Number ও Plural Number উভয়ের আগে The বসে, যদি Noun-কে নির্দিষ্ট করে বোঝানো হয়। যেমনঃ The boys are running. The girl is dancing.

02. একই জাতীয় সকলকে বুঝাতে Singular Common Noun-এর আগে the বসে। যেমনঃ The goat is an useful animal. The cat kills the rat.

• এ অর্থে The-এর পরিবর্তে প্রদত্ত Common Noun-টির Plural ব্যবহার করা যায়। যেমন : The dog is a faithful animal or A dog is a faithful animal or Dog are faithful animals.

• মানবজাতি বুঝাতে Man ও Woman এর পূর্বে the বসবে না ।

Incorrect:The man is mortal

Correct:Man is mortal

03. Adjective-যুক্ত কিছু Proper Noun আগে The বসে । যেমন: The National Science Museum, The national zoo at Mirpur, the fort of Lalbag.

04. সকল ধর্মীয় গ্রন্থ এবং পত্রিকার নামের আগে The বসাতে হয়। যেমন: The holy Quran, The Bible, The Daily Ittefaq, The Daily Star ইত্যাদি।

05. পৃথিবীতে যেসব বস্তু মাত্র একটি আছে  (চাঁদ, আকাশ, সূর্য, পূর্ব, পশ্চিম, উত্তর, পৃথিবী, দক্ষিণ ইত্যাদি)  তার আগে The বসে । যেমন- The polestar, The sky, The sun, The earth, The east, The moon ইত্যাদি।

06. সাগর, নদী, মহাসাগর, উপসাগর, জাহাজ, পর্বতশ্রেণি, দ্বীপপুঞ্জ, বন ইত্যাদির নামের আগে The বসে। যেমন: The Atlantic, The Padma, The Sundarbans, The Titanic, The Bay of Bengal, The Himalayas, ইত্যাদি।

• তবে একটিমাত্র দ্বীপ বা পর্বত বুঝালে তার আগে The বসে না। যেমন : Sandwip, Mount Everest, Hatia, St. Martin ইত্যাদি।

07. তারিখের আগে The বসে। যেমন: The 15th of November, The 24th March, The 21st February, The 15th December ইত্যাদি ।

08. Common Noun-এর ক্ষেত্রে Possessive Adjective-এর পরিবর্তে The ব্যবহৃত করা হয়ে থাকে। যেমনঃ She boxed on the (my) head. The teacher pulled the girl by the (her) ear.

09. জাতি এবং সম্প্রদায়ের নামের পশ্চাতে The বসে থাকে। যেমন: The English, The pious, The Muslims, The rich, The Chakma, The poor.

 10. দুইয়ের মধ্যে তুলনা বুঝাতে Adjective-এর Comparative Degree-এর আগে The বসে। যেমনঃ Imran Sikder is the better of the two boys.

11. যে সকল Collective Noun দ্বারা বৃত্তি বা পেশা বোঝায় সেগুলোর পূর্বে The বসে। যেমন: Shamim Sikder joined the police / the army / the navy.

12. (উপাধি/পদবী) Singular designation এর আগে the বসে। যেমনঃ the Prime Minister, The President.

13. যখন adjective-দ্বরা কোনো Abstract quality বুঝালে, ঐ adjective-এর পূর্বে the বসাতে হয়। যেমনঃ Everyone loves the brave.

14. যত তত বুঝাতে Adverb রূপে ব্যবহৃত Comparative Degree-এর আগে the বসে। যেমনঃ The sooner you learn to do hard work, the sooner you will be succesful.

15. কোনো নির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর গুণ বুঝাতে Abstract Noun এর পূর্বে the বসে। যেমনঃ The courage of Shafin is known to all.

16. Material Noun-এর আগে The বসে না। তবে কোনো নির্দিষ্ট স্থানের বা নির্দিষ্ট প্রকারের পদার্থ বুঝালে তখন Material Noun-এর আগে The বসে। যেমন: The perfume of Bangladesh is famous.

17. Ordinal Number (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th etc) যখন অক্ষরের মাধ্যমে লেখা হয়, তবে তখন তার আগে the বসে। যেমনঃ Emam Hosen is the first. Ebit the sixth. Shamim is the second.

18. প্রসিদ্ধ ঐতিহাসিক নামের আগে The বসে। যেমন: Ibrahim was defeated in The battle of Panipath.

19. Superlative Degree-এর Adjective- এর আগে The বসে।  She is the best girl in this room.

20. যখন Proper Noun-এর আগে Adjective থাকে তবে তখন ঐ Adjective-এর আগে the বসে। যেমনঃ The great Osman was the third Caliph.

21. বর্ণনা করা যায় এমন অথবা অর্থবহুল ভৌগোলিক নামের আগে The বসে থাকে। যেমন: The USSR, The U.S.A., The Pubjab ইত্যাদি।

22. বংশের Plural-নাম এর আগে the বসে। যেমনঃ The Mughals, The Sikders, The Pathans, The Khans.

23. একই গুণসম্পন্ন দুইটি বস্তু বা ব্যাক্তির সঙ্গে তুলনা করলে তখন যার সঙ্গে তুলনা করা হয় তার আগে the বসে। যেমনঃ Siraj was the Nobab of Bengal.

24.  Musical instruments-এর পূর্বে the বসে। যেমন : Jenifer is playing the piano.
